Uruguayan Dessert Arroz con Leche
Arroz con leche….Rice with milk
There are several ways of doing this dessert. We will give you the
two most popular recipes.
Recipe 1:
Ingredients:
1 liter milk
1 cup of sugar
½ cup of white rice
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 tablespoons cinnamon
Preparation:
Put to boil the milk with the sugar. When it starts boiling, add
to it the rice and lower the fire, stir it so the rice won’t
stick to the bottom of the pan. Let it boil until the rice is done,
that is about 25-30 minutes. When it is cooked, drop the vanilla inside,
put it in a serving dish that can be taken to the refrigerator and
top it all with the cinnamon. Delicious!
Recipe 2
Ingredients
1 liter milk
½ cup of washed rice
1cup of sugar
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation:
Put in a pan the milk, with ¾ cup of sugar. When it starts
boiling, add the rice and let it boil for 30 minutes. Once done, beat
well the two egg yolks and the ¼ cup of sugar, add the vanilla.
Mix well the rice mixture with the eggs mixture, and let it cook for
three more minutes. You can add cinnamon or grated orange rind. Or
just leave it without them, put it in the refrigerator and serve it
very cold.
