Sweet Bread from Argentina
This is a very delicious bread, made mostly for the Holidays, and loved
by the children.
3 cups of white flour
1 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of yeast
½ cup of milk
1/3 cup of butter
Grated rind of 1 lemon
Grated rind of 1 orange
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ cup of candied fruit
½ cup of raisins
½ cup of powered sugar
½ cup of crushed almonds
Put the flour, on a kitchen table, make a hole in the middle and
there add the sugar, the eggs, the milk, yeast, both grated rinds,
vanilla and knead it all until the dough is soft. Let it rest for
some half hour, covered to keep it warm.
Knead again, and form a big square with the dough. Over this dough,
place the fruit, the raisins and the almonds. Roll this dough. On
top of it brush one beaten egg yolk. Take it to medium heat oven until
it is golden, about 35 minutes.
